The latest news that we received, there were 900 people affected and more than 400 residents had to flee to safer areas, one of which is in a mosque which is located quite far from the floods.

Reported from the CNNIndonesia.com page, the Secretary of the Bogor Regency BPBD, Budi Pranowo, when contacted by Antara in Bogor, said that there were 134 family heads or 474 people who had been successfully evacuated. According to him, hundreds of victims of flash floods are now seeking refuge in mosques, which are not affected by the floods. Budi said that the flash floods damaged dozens of residents’ houses, and even vehicles could not pass several access roads in the area

From the end of 2020 to January 2021, a number of areas in Indonesia have been hit by various natural disasters, including flash floods, earthquakes, eruptions to landslides.

On its official website, BMKG said that in January 2021, it was noted that most parts of Indonesia had entered the rainy season. BMKG urges the public to always be aware of extreme weather which has the potential to impact hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, flash floods and landslides.

These are natural disaster events that require our immediate assistance:

  1. Flood

From 2020 to early 2021, there were around thousands of people affected by flash floods. One of them is the flood in South Kalimantan.

A 3 meter high flood inundated South Kalimantan from January 14 to January 15 2020. The latest news is that there are 11 cities / regencies affected by flash floods, namely:

Regency. Tanah Laut, Kab. Hulu Sungai Tengah, Kab. Banjar, Banjarbaru City, Kab. Tapin, Kab. Hulu Sungai Tengah, Kab. Balangan, Banjarmasin City, Kab. Tabalong, Kab. Hulu Sungai Tengah, and Kab. Barito Kuala.

The flood caused thousands of houses to drown and around 26,000 people were displaced to safer places. The road that connects the regencies is broken! Places of worship and Islamic boarding schools were also drowned by the flood.

2. Earthquake

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 occurred in Majene, West Sulawesi, on Thursday (14/1/2021). One day later, an aftershock measuring 6.2 magnitude occurred again in Majene.

Based on BMKG monitoring results, earthquakes have occurred 28 times since Thursday (14/1) at 13.35 WIB to Friday (15/1) at 06.00 WIB.

The Mejene earthquake damaged hundreds of houses and displaced 15,000 people. There were 42 victims died and 637 people injured as a result of the Mejene earthquake.

3. Eruption

From 2020 to early 2021, many people have been affected by the eruption of several volcanoes in Indonesia. One of them is the Mount Ile Lewotolok Eruption in Lembata Regency, NTT.

The eruption of Mount Ile Lewotolok in Lembata Regency, NTT occurred on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at 09.45 WITA, with a high ash column ± 4,000 m above the peak (± 5,423 m above sea level).

The eruption caused thousands of lives to flee, 133 livestock died and 1,133 animals got sick.

Currently, Mount Ile Lewotolok is in Level III (Alert) Status. People around Mount Ile Lewotolok and visitors / climbers / tourists are prohibited from moving or approaching all areas within a radius of 2 km from the peak / activity center of Mount Ile Lewotolok. There are 2 Districts and 35 Villages that are in the danger zone.

4. Landslide

Along with floods, several areas also experienced landslides, such as: floods in Medan and floods in Lebak at the end of 2020. At the beginning of this year, landslides occurred in Sumedang.

Landslides occurred at Pondok Daud Housing, Bojongkondang Hamlet, Cihanjuang Village, Cimanggung District, Sumedang, West Java, on Saturday (9/1/2021).

Landslides are caused by high rainfall and unstable soil conditions. The landslides are known to have occurred twice, namely at 15.30 and 18.30 WIB.

This landslide event caused hundreds of people to flee. Landslides also damaged 14 houses, roads and 1 bridge. There were 13 victims died, 27 people were missing and 18 people were injured.
